Preserving India’s Rare Literary & Cultural Heritage
Rampur Raza Library is one of India’s most prestigious historical libraries and a globally recognized repository of Indo-Islamic cultural heritage. Located in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, the library was established in the late 18th century by Nawab Faizullah Khan and later developed by the Nawabs of Rampur. It is currently managed under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The library houses an extraordinary collection of rare manuscripts, historical documents, miniature paintings, Islamic calligraphy, astronomical instruments, and printed books in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Sanskrit, Hindi, Turkish, and several other languages. With over 17,000 manuscripts and around 60,000 printed books, Rampur Raza Library is considered one of South Asia’s most important centers for historical and literary research.
The institution promotes preservation of cultural heritage, research, digitization of rare collections, academic studies, exhibitions, and public access to historical resources.
