Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in Rainfed Regions
The National Rainfed Area Authority (NRAA) is an autonomous organization under the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Established in 2006, NRAA focuses on the sustainable development of rainfed and drought-prone regions of the country through integrated natural resource management, watershed development, climate-resilient agriculture, and livelihood enhancement programs.
Headquartered in New Delhi, NRAA provides policy guidance, technical support, and strategic recommendations for improving agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods in rainfed areas, which constitute a significant portion of India's agricultural land. The authority works closely with central ministries, state governments, research institutions, and development agencies to promote water conservation, soil health management, agroforestry, watershed development, climate adaptation, and sustainable farming practices.
NRAA plays a crucial role in strengthening food security, enhancing farmer incomes, and promoting sustainable agricultural development. The organization offers opportunities for professionals in agriculture, environmental science, watershed management, rural development, economics, policy research, natural resource management, and administration.
