The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a foreign territory within India for the purposes of trade operations and duties and tariffs, with special rules for facilitating foreign direct investment. Cochin Special Economic Zone, one of the seven Central Government owned zones, is located in Cochin in the State of Kerala in southwest India.
The objective of the Cochin Special Economic Zone is to provide an operating environment, free from the plethora of rules and regulations governing import and export, for boosting manufacturing, augmenting exports and generating employment. Cochin SEZ also provides much needed infrastructural support to the trade by bridging critical gaps in the infrastructure such as assured water supply, telecom, global connectivity network, banking facilities, electrical distribution network, common effluent treatment plant and upgrading the civil structures.
